Testing 1, 2, 3 -- EM2000 Enters Phase III of
Y2000 Plan
We're there! Avnet Electronics Marketing (EM) is
testing the system and applications that will keep the division running
after January 1, 2000. Tested products fall into the following categories:
-
Genesis/Vendor Products: In concert with ISD, we are currently testing
mission-critical applications, including the Genesis system. Subject Matter
Experts (SMEs) are also testing products supplied by vendors, such as Manugistics
and Aspect, within our division.
-
EM-Specific Applications. These are mission-critical applications that
are being rewritten or developed from scratch, such as JobLog, Commissions
and CFO Vision. SMEs will integrate Year 2000 product testing into acceptance
test plans.
-
Commercial, Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Products. Vendors are providing compliance
documents for these products, but we are also conducting additional compliance
testing to meet Avnet's standards.
-
Products Slated for Retirement. Products such as the sales tracking database
constitute the last category. These are not tested and their replacements
belong to one of the previous three categories.
In addition, the EM Project Office (PO) has completed
its non-IT inventory for in-plant stores and warehouses. We are currently
determining inventory items that need to be tested for compliance.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this project.
Without the help of the EM testing teams, we would not be able to meet
our goals.
